Year 7

Year 7 marks the beginning of high school, transitioning students into Stage 4 of their education. This stage focuses on the development of core literacy and numeracy skills, building a solid foundation for future learning. Students engage in a broad curriculum that includes English, mathematics, science, history, geography, and technology. Additionally, they begin to refine their study habits and work towards becoming independent learners. The year also emphasises social skills, as students adjust to the demands of secondary school life.

The following resources can help with the transition to high school

Getting involved

Being involved in extracurricular activities in high school is a great way to explore your interests, develop new skills, and make lasting connections with others. Whether it’s joining a sports team, participating in musical or dramtic performances, or special events, extracurriculars offer opportunities to grow outside the classroom. They help build leadership, teamwork, and time management skills, which are valuable in future careers. Plus, they provide a fun and supportive environment to balance academic pressures and enhance your high school experience.

National test

NAPLAN (National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy) is an annual assessment for Australian students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9, evaluating their skills in reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar, and punctuation), and numeracy. It provides valuable data for educators, parents, and the community to assess students' progress in these essential areas and informs improvements in educational strategies. The results help identify areas of strength and opportunities for growth, supporting teachers in refining their teaching methods. NAPLAN is one part of a broader assessment process and does not measure overall school quality.

Parents will receive a report of your child's achievement in the NAPLAN test.
